Today was a weird day in Dallas. It started raining last night around 10 pm and it was about 60 degrees outside. I happily fell asleep to the soft sound of rain outside. Then, I woke up around 3 am to what sounded like someone pelting my window with Mardi Gras beads. Not only was it sleeting like crazy, but we had a *howling* north wind (Guess whose master bedroom windows face north? This gal!) and it was thundering and lightning. Before last night, I didn't even know thundersleet was possible. The sleet/slow combination didn't let up until 10 am-ish and the wind has yet to cease. When I woke up it was 25 degrees outside and since then the temperature has dropped. Currently, the wind chill is approximately -3. This Florida-born Texas can't even fathom temperatures like that.
All that to say: I think almost everyone in the city had a snow day today. There's nothing better than working like this:
And because I was so comfortable and content, I actually was very productive.
Not so much for my dogs. Ralph spent the day sleeping the closet or on our bed in the down comforter. Fitz spent the day on guard while I worked:
(photo taken with the Hipstamatic app for my iPhone). He was on patrol for anyone that might walk by.
I also spent the day watching cars attempt to drive up the icy hill behind my house and failing. Great entertainment - and I actually learned how *not* to drive on ice by watching.
This Explorer was stuck for ages and finally gave in and just reversed and slid down the hill.
There's nothing like an icy day in Dallas.
